When Should You Register for Post-Secondary School?

There are many admissions exercises that students can choose from. Depending on the academic journey they wish to pursue, the registration timeline and entry requirement2 will differ.

One of the most common pathways is through the Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE), which allows students to apply to a wide range of junior colleges (JCs), Millennia Institute (MI), polytechnics, and the Institute of Technical Education (ITE). The JAE application period usually takes place in January, and the window for the 2026 intake has now closed 3

However, students may also apply directly to their preferred post-secondary institution through other admissions exercises such as the ITE Early Admissions Exercise (ITE EAE), Direct School Admission for Junior Colleges (DSA-JC), Joint Intake Exercise ‘O’ (JIE ‘O’), and Polytechnic Early Admissions Exercise (Polytechnic EAE).

FAQs: O Level Examination Dates

Will there still be O Levels in 2027?

2026 will be the last year in which the traditional GCE N(T), GCE N(A), and O Level certifications will be awarded. From 2027 onwards, students will sit for the Singapore-Cambridge Secondary Education Certificate (SEC), which offers more flexibility in subject selection.

There are no changes in the PSLE and A Level exams for 2027.

For school candidates, do I need to register for the O Level exams?

No, school candidates do not need to register for the O Level exams, as the school will handle registration on your behalf. However, school candidates must pay any required exam fees and register their choice of examination subjects through the school by the stipulated deadlines.

How do private candidates register for the O Levels?

Private candidates must self-register with their Singpass credentials through the SEAB portal and pay the exam fees at the time of registration. Your subject choices may affect the total exam fees payable to the SEAB.

Additionally, private candidates may need to fulfill various conditions to be eligible for specific subjects.

For instance, candidates registering for science subjects with practical components must have taken the same subject previously or are currently attending/will be attending a course of instruction in Science Practical at any school. As for mother tongue language papers, candidates arerequired to choose between mid-year and year-end written exams, with the possibility of retaking the written paper after the mid-year results.

What are the entry requirements for Junior College (JC) and Millennia Institute (MI)?

To be eligible for JC or MI entry, students must meet the minimum requirements based on their O Level results 4

For JCs, students must achieve an L1R5 aggregate score of 20 points or below, and meet the minimum grade requirements for specific subjects, namely:

  • English Language: A1 to C6
  • Any Mathematics subject (A or E Math): A1 to D7
  • Any 1 Mother Tongue Language (MTL), as follows:
    • MTL: A1 to D7
    • Higher MTL: A1 to E8
    • ‘B’ Syllabus: Merit or Pass

For Millennia Institute (MI), students must obtain an L1R4 aggregate score of 20 points or below, along with the required subject passes, which include:

  • English Language: A1 to C6

  • Any 1 Mother Tongue Language (MTL), as follows:
    • MTL: A1 to D7
    • Higher MTL: A1 to E8
    • ‘B’ Syllabus: Merit or Pass

Take note that meeting the minimum eligibility does not guarantee admission, as placement depends on competition and available vacancies.

What are the exam timetables for O Level exams in 2026?

According to the SEAB, the GCE O Level examinations in 2026 will span 2 June to 10 November 2026. To support both parents and students in their exam preparation, we have compiled a comprehensive list of all the available subjects and important exam details above.

What date do the O Level exams end?

In 2026, the last O Level examination will end on 10 November. The subjects assessed on the last day include Science (Phy/Chem), Science (Phy/Bio), Science (Chem/Bio), and Biology. All O Level exam scripts will be sent to appointed examiners, and results are predicted to be released in January of the following year.

Can I change my subject combination after registering?

Yes, school candidates can still change their subject combination, as long as the changes are approved by the school board and made before the final list is submitted to the SEAB.
