I discovered Zenith during their June holiday crash courses in Economics and Chemistry, where engaging teachers simplified complex concepts. Their guidance helped me achieve consistent A grades, making the experience both enjoyable and rewarding.

Latest Changes in JC Cut-Off Point System (2026)

As of 2026, there have been no new announcements to the JC cut-off point system or the O Level exams as a whole.

However, from 2027 onwards, the GCE O Level and N Level examinations will be replaced by a singular common exam, namely the Singapore‑Cambridge Secondary Education Certificate (SEC)2. Three new subject levels, G1, G2, and G3, will be introduced by the Ministry of Education under the new subject banding system, giving students more flexibility to excel in various subjects across streams3

Students taking the 2027 examinations will also see major changes in the 2028 JC admission process. Instead of six subjects (L1R5), entry will be based on five subjects (L1R4). Applicants are eligible for JC admission if their aggregate score does not exceed 16, with a maximum of 3 bonus points4

What Are The JC Cut-Off Points? How do they work?

JC cut-off points (COP) refer to the highest Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE) L1R5 score among students who were successfully admitted into a particular junior college. Every year, the Ministry of Education (MOE) publishes each JC’s cut-off points, helping future students gauge the gross aggregate scores they need to gain admission to a junior college of their choice.

By analysing previous years’ cut-off points, here are a few important trends that students taking the GCE O Level exams may need to take note of:

  • Raffles Institution (RI) and Hwa Chong Institution (HCI) remain the toughest JCs to apply for. While the COPs have remained the same for Arts in both JCs, the COP for Science in HCI has decreased by 1 point in 2026, meaning that the chances of acceptance into either of these JCs are slim to none without Higher Mother Tongue Language (HMTL)
  • To realistically compete for a spot in RI or HCI, students are advised to take a HMTL or a third language and to earn the full Co-Curricular (CCA) bonus points, in addition to excellent academic results.
  • Compared to previous years, many JCs saw a decrease in COPs in 2026, indicating stronger academic performance by the 2025 A Level students. This trend reflects increasingly competitive JC acceptance rates, meaning that aspiring JC students may need to capitalise on bonus points and plan future pathways more carefully. Here are all of the recent JC COP fluctuations:
    • Hwa Chong Institute → 4 to 3 for Science programmes
    • National JC → 7 to 6 for Science programmes
    • Dunman High School JC → 7 to 6 for Science programmes
    • Anglo-Chinese JC → 8 to 7 for Science programmes
    • Temasek JC →  8 to 7 for Arts programmes
    • St Andrew JC → 9 to 8 for Science programmes
    • Anderson Serangoon JC → 11 to 10 for Arts programmes, and 10 to 9 for Science Programmes
    • Catholic JC → 13 to 12 for Arts programmes and 12 to 11 for Science programmes
    • Tampines Meridian JC → 13 to 12 for Arts programmes
    • Jurong Pioneer JC → 15 to 14 for Arts programmes
    • Yishun Innova JC → 19 to 20 for Arts programmes

Are JC Cut-Off Points Getting Higher or Lower?

In 2026, many JCs’ cut-off points have decreased, signalling heightened competition for admission.

Changes in cut-off points can be attributed to several factors, including the overall performance of the O Level cohort that year, the number of applicants to each programme, and each college’s popularity.

How To Calculate Your GCE O Level Score

To calculate your O Level grade, you need to add up your grade points for subjects according to the L1R5 formula. The L1R5 is comprised of one Language subject (English or Higher Mother Tongue) and five best-scoring relevant subjects. Depending on your desired programme and college, there may be specific subject requirements, such as including more than one Science subject or at least one Math subject.

Students can use the JAE Internet System to submit their JC choices and check their posting results. You can find a more comprehensive breakdown of the O Level grading system and examples on our website.

"While Zenith’s notes are much better than my school's, it was truly my tutor who got me from a U to A grade. He is someone I truly respect. Not only was he very approachable, he made sure that we really absorbed what we needed, and was always willing to stay way past our lesson timings to clarify any of our questions."

"After joining Zenith Bio, my grades improved drastically from an S to an A in A Level’s! Bio is so much more than regurgitation and requires a firm understanding of the subject in order to ace A Levels — I was super glad that I was able to text my friendly tutor with any questions I had!! Getting treated to welfare during bio lessons also really helped me to focus throughout the lesson. 🥤"

"With the huge academic transition to JC, I was unable to cope with my studies and constantly scored an S for my exams. After joining the crash courses held by Zenith in June, I decided to sign up for their chemistry class! My tutor is an extremely helpful teacher and his teachings were concise and easy to understand which greatly helped me clear up any misconceptions I had."
