PSLE 2026 Dates: Exam Schedule & Key Deadlines

Plan Ahead For The 2026 PSLE

The Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) marks a major academic milestone in your child’s primary school education, assessing foundational knowledge and determining eligibility for secondary school placements.

In 2026, the Ministry of Education (MOE) officially released the PSLE examination timetable, helping both parents and students alike organise revision plans and manage time more effectively. Starting exam preparations early and supporting weaker subjects with PSLE tuition can help students build confidence and reduce last-minute stress.

How to Calculate PSLE Scores with the New AL System

Since 2021, the PSLE results have been calculated through a new Achievement Levels (AL) scoring system, replacing the T-score system. Under the AL system, the raw PSLE scores for every subject are translated into numbered bands ranging from 1 to 8. These bands are then added together to determine your child’s final PSLE score.

The final PSLE score will be used to divide students into three Posting Groups, which determines subject difficulty levels at the beginning of their secondary education.

Find out more about why the T-score system was replaced, as well as examples on how to calculate PSLE AL scores on our blog.

What is the new grading system for PSLE in 2026?

The 2026 PSLE exams will continue to be graded using the Achievement Levels (ALs) system, which was introduced in 2021 to replace the T-score framework. Under this system, students receive PSLE AL scores from 1 (best) to 8 for each subject. The sum of all their subject scores will then be used in secondary school placements.

When will the PSLE be held in 2026?

According to the Ministry of Education (MOE), the PSLE exam schedule starts from 12 August to 30 September 2026. The Marking Exercise (Mon to Wednesday, 12 – 14 October) will follow, and the final results are expected to be released in November 2026.

Are there any changes to the PSLE in 2026?

Yes, there are several changes surrounding the PSLE exams in 2026.

From this year onwards, students who perform well in their mother tongue language subjects will be able to take higher mother tongue languages in Secondary 1, regardless of their overall PSLE scores 3, allowing for more flexibility in subject selections and a learning journey that caters to each student’s strengths.

2026 will also be the first year students experience the fully updated curriculum, which has been progressively implemented since 2021 4. In early February, the MOE also announced plans to examine issues surrounding the Direct School Admissions (DSA-Sec) and co-curricular activities (CCA), which have become increasingly competitive in recent years 5

Are there alternative pathways to gain admission into my preferred secondary school?

In addition to the PSLE posting, eligible students may also seek admission to secondary schools through the Direct School Admission (DSA-Sec). Students may apply for DSA-Sec based on a wide range of talents, including sports, public speaking, uniformed groups, engineering, and leadership in school-wide initiatives or events.

A few handy tips for students planning to take the DSA-Sec pathway include starting preparations early, building a strong portfolio in their chosen talent area, and getting assistance from a counsellor or teacher to practise for interviews and selection trials.
